Our Halong Bay buses are not allowed into Hanoi’s Old Quarter between 6 and 9 AM. Hanoi city authorities closed those streets to buses over 16 seats, so on cruise mornings nobody is collected at a hotel door inside the Old Quarter: you walk to one of our 10 meeting points instead. That changes where to stay in Hanoi before a Halong Bay cruise. Pick the right hotel and the walk is 3 to 8 minutes; pick the wrong one and you start the day dragging a suitcase across Hoan Kiem at 7 AM.
The 10 Meeting Points and Their Pickup Times

Booked on Cozy Bay Grand, our overnight ship? The same points apply, but pickup runs later, between 7:45 and 8:30 AM. Every point is on the meeting points map, and the bus waits a maximum of 5 minutes at each one.
How to Choose a Hotel Around the Points
The points form three clusters, and the cluster you sleep in decides how relaxed your morning is:
- West side (Phung Hung, Duong Thanh): points 2, 3 and 4, all at 7:20 AM. Good if you want the Old Quarter’s street-food lanes on your doorstep the night before.
- South and east of Hoan Kiem Lake (Trang Thi, Tran Nhat Duat, Nguyen Huu Huan): points 1, 5, 6 and 7. Point 1 is the earliest stop of the morning at 7:10 AM.
- Riverside and the French Quarter edge (Tran Quang Khai, Opera House): points 8, 9 and 10, the last pickups at 7:40 and 7:45 AM, so the longest lie-in.
When I checked Booking.com on 16 October 2026, its Old Quarter area listed 772 accommodation properties, so there is no shortage of choice. The useful filter is distance, not stars: open the map view, drop the pin on your nearest point and keep the walk under ten minutes. We have not personally inspected the hotels on that list, so read recent guest reviews for noise. The Old Quarter stays loud until late, and a quiet room matters more than a rooftop bar when your alarm is set for 6:30.
Staying Just Outside the Old Quarter
Hotels just outside the Old Quarter are not left out. Our records cover two pickup areas where the bus still comes to you:
- South of the Old Quarter (Pham Dinh Ho, Tran Hung Dao, Hai Ba Trung, Tran Nhan Tong, Ly Thuong Kiet, Le Duan, Tho Nhuom, Yet Kieu and nearby streets): pickup around 7:00 AM for day cruises.
- West of the Old Quarter (Thanh Nien, Cua Bac, Hang Bun, Quan Thanh, Phan Dinh Phung, Nguyen Truong To, Pham Hong Thai and nearby streets): pickup around 7:25 AM.
Either way, the night before, your guide calls to confirm the exact point and time, and in the evening the bus drops you back at your hotel, so there is no need to walk back to the meeting point.
Arriving the Day Before Your Cruise
Most guests fly into Noi Bai International Airport, roughly 30 km north of the Old Quarter. Landing the afternoon before your cruise is the safe plan; landing the same morning is not, because the first pickup leaves at 7:10 AM. Groups of three or more can ask us about a complimentary one-way airport transfer; otherwise you can book a Noi Bai airport to Hanoi transfer in advance so you reach your hotel without haggling for a taxi.
Leave anything you don’t need for the day at the hotel. Day cruises return you to the same hotel, and Cozy Bay Grand guests only need an overnight bag on board.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Cozy Bay bus pick up from my hotel in the Old Quarter? No. Buses over 16 seats cannot enter the Old Quarter between 6 and 9 AM, so pickup is at one of 10 meeting points, each a 3–8 minute walk from the main hotels. Hotels just south or west of the Old Quarter are collected in their area.

Will I be dropped back at my hotel? Yes. After the cruise the bus drops you at your hotel, not at the meeting point.
